Abstract

Objective This research aims to map the formation and theoretical conceptual evolution of innovation in the fields of hospitality and hospitality, as well as providing an integrated framework on the most influential studies in these fields and trends in future studies on the subject.

Methodology The study was developed using bibliometric techniques. Co-citation analysis and bibliographic matching techniques were used to achieve the proposed objectives.

Originality/Relevance: Despite the importance of innovation in the area of hotels and hospitality, there is a lack of revisionary studies on the relationship between these themes, therefore, in this sense this study is relevant because it contributes to theoretical advancement by presenting a more integrated picture on fragmented results of previous research on innovation in the field of hotel and hospitality.

Main results: The co-citation map resulted in the identification of five Clusters that are covered in depth in this research. Ten Clusters were identified in the bibliographic matching map, with the most important Cluster analyzing social and environmental innovation in companies in the tourism, hospitality and hotel sectors.

Theoretical/methodological contributions: The main theoretical contribution of the research refers to the systematization of the domain of knowledge about innovation in hospitality and hotels, especially in identifying the frontiers of knowledge on the subject (bibliographic pairing).

Social/management contributions: The research results can be used by managers working in the hospitality and hospitality fields to implement innovative services, enabling increased competitiveness and improved financial performance of their companies.
