In this paper we present the results of studying and monitoring the implementation of the 5S methodology, examining the major obstacles faced and benefits. The method applied was action research. The research tools used were weekly audits and questionnaires applied to workers and the management team. Although the audits revealed benefits, it was apparent that check-list procedures were not done, revealing a discipline problem. Questionnaires pointed out similarities between the two groups related to benefits. However, in terms of the effectiveness of the 5S implantation, the management team considered that it had been concluded, whereas workers revealed that it was still in process of being implemented. Workers stated that blockages occurred due to their own lack of commitment, collaboration, and dedication, while the management team pointed out that the main obstacle was the absence of prioritization of the project by the higher-level staff of the company, as well as the lack of resources and focus.Downloads
