Abstract

A proceeding to consider the relation between the temporo-mandibular dysfunction and posture is necessary to propose the correct clinical treatment. The objective of this study was to describe the head position by means of bidimensional kinematical analysis. The group was composed of 15 persons with anterior head projection and 15 without this projection. They received marks that were putted on the anatomical accidents of zygomatic, on sternal-clavicular joint, on tragus, on occipital, and on the first thoracic vertebrae. Pictures were taken of frontal and lateral planes. The planes coordinates were calculated to define the angular zygomatic-sternal, tragus-sternum and occipital-T1 relations. The zygomatic-esternal (ZE) and the esternal-clavicular (EC) inclinations are different between groups (p<0.05) and higher in the anterior head projection group. It was observed that kinematical analysis quantifies the anterior head projection through the inclination of ZE and EC lines. However, the measures of the occiput-T1 distance are not different between groups.
