Analysis of sedentariness influence on the quality of life of chronic low back pain patients

Abstract

This paper aimed to study the effect of inactivity as cause of pain, through the analysis of its relation with lumbar pain. We selected 30 women, sedentary and physical activities practitioners, aged between 20 and 50 years. The instrument used was the SF-36, implemented from May to July 2008. The volunteers who perform physical activity were statistically significant, showing better results in variables. The functional capacity was 16% higher in active volunteers; limitation by physical characteristics, 19%, and pain 33% higher in sedentary; general state of health, 24% and vitality, 30% and social aspect, 28%, higher in active; limitation by emotional aspects, 39% higher in sedentary volunteers, and mental health was better in 28% of active women. The patients who perform some type of physical activity tend to have better quality of life both in the functional aspects related to pain and on the emotional aspects.
