Abstract

Objectives: This study aimed to verify the action of GaAlAs laser, 650 nm, on BMPs in bone defects induced in femurs of rats. Methods: The femurs of 12 rats were subjected to bone defects produced by a diamond drill, divided into two groups: 1 (BMP and laser) and 2 (BMP). After the defect was used in group 1 the GaAlAs laser, 650 nm, about the defect, for 21 consecutive days. Compared the new bone formation in BMP + LLLT group (p <0.0001) between the period of 7 to 21 days, and BMP (p <0.0001). Results: The intergroup comparison showed significant gain on day 7, with the group BMP + LLLT (p <0.0001), for the 14th day, a difference of BMP + LLLT (p <0.0001) and day 21 ( p <0.0001) compared to the BMP group. Conclusions: The association of the application of low power laser and bone-inducing substance achieved a better result than just the use of BMPs.
