Abstract

OBJECTIVES: To verify the presence of some motor skills in children and adults deafblind. METHOD: For this, we used chi-square test to compare observed frequencies with those expected in adults in relation to the proportions seen in children. For each skill checked this was calculated as the percentage of occurrence in the total group. Most skills were present in children and adults, but three totally lacking skills among children. RESULTS: Adult attendance rate had increased to almost all the skills when compared with the children. However, for two of the skills assessed, the adults showed attendance rate decreased when compared with children. CONCLUSIONS: It was noted that although some of the skills assessed were observed in low frequency, all were present in adults, suggesting that deafblind children and adults could be trained to acquire these motor skills.
