Effects of the physical training in asthmatic children

Introduction: Physical conditioning programs for asthmatic patients have promoted improvement of physical capacity, decrease the incidence and frequency of asthma attacks, reducing symptoms and bringing greater social and psychological independence. Objective: To evaluate the effects of exercise training in children with asthma. Methods: This study was a clinical trial that evaluated 13 children of both sexes (8.6 ± 2.8 years); from these only three left the program claiming they had not afford. Patients were assessed by 6-minute walk test and six minutes step test, and they were reassessed after 12 weeks of treatment. Results: It was observed, post training, that the children had a significant increase in performance in both tests – in distance of 351.5±153.1 to 463.75±172.4 meters and in number of climbs and descents of step was of 57±11 to 79±14. Conclusion: It can be inferred that the children showed an improvement in physical fitness and in their quality of life.Downloads
