Abstract

Introduction: Gait analysis is the most used instrument for assess biomechanical changes associated with Total Hip Replacement (THR). Objective: To evaluate the three-dimensional kinematics of the hip joint and temporal spatial parameters during walking in patients undergoing THR and compare to walking pattern in healthy individuals. Methods: Two groups were formed: group 1 consisted of nine patients undergoing THR, all through anterior-lateral side and group 2 consisted of four healthy subjects. All patients underwent three-dimensional computerized gait analysis. The kinematic data of 12 gait cycles of each patient were compared with the control group and statistically analyzed by comparing confidence intervals of 95%. Results: Significant changes (p <0.05) in all three planes of motion of hips studied were found. Conclusions: There was a linear and angular difference when compared to three-dimensional kinematics of the hip joint prosthetized and not prosthetized of the individuals of THR group with the subjects of control group.
