Abstract

Introduction: Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) consists of a set of signs and symptoms involving the masticatory muscles, the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and associated structures. Objective: To identify the prevalence of signs and symptoms of TMD in the elderly. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional analytical descriptive study. The diagnosis was obtained by questionnaire from Cecagno Anamnesis. Results: The sample consisted of 40 subjects, where the presence of clicks it was shown in 20% and was notorious in the opening (87.5%) and closing the mouth (62.5%). There was sensitivity during palpation. We used 1% significance level with p <0.05. Conclusions: The prevalence of elderly patients with temporomandibular disorders is still an object of study and much controversy. Several authors consider rare the pathology in these individuals, but this is not always consistent with reality. Therefore, it is necessary to have more specific assessments that often goes unnoticed by the TMD primarily absence of symptoms, which is not to say that the ATM is in full functionality.
