Introduction: Individuals with Type 2 Diabetes (T2DM) have chances of cardiovascular mortality three times higher than the general population. Objective: To investigate the effect of an exercise program in the reduction cardiovascular risk in T2DM. Methods: We evaluated 26 participants with T2DM were divided into two groups: control group (CG: n = 17) and intervention group (G5: n = 9). The supervised exercise program (SEP) was conducted at the session of respiratory physiology in Unifesp and supervised by physical educators. The cardiovascular risk assessment was performed by measuring of waist circumference (WC), BMI and % body fat (%BF). Wilcoxon and Kruskal Wallis test with p ≤ 0.05 were used for statistical analysis. Results: The CG showed an increase of WC, BMI and % BF after 20 weeks of training while the G5 showed a reduction of these variables. Conclusions: For this sample a FPEs may decrease cardiovascular risk in T2DM.Downloads
