Abstract

Introduction: Sprains is a type of musculoskeletal injury that occurs when a torsion force is applied to the joint, which can cause some damage to the structures of the human body. One practice used for the prevention and treatment of such injury is the rigid functional taping. Objective: To analyze the influence of functional rigid taping on joint stability of the ankle in basketball players. Methods: It was evaluated 11 under-15 male basketball athletes and all athletes were subjected to stabilometry with and without the use of rigid functional taping on the ankle joint. Results: It was demonstrated that there is an increased stability with the use of the taping, assisting muscular response, providing greater biomechanical support and thereby possibly preventing the injury. Conclusion: When using the functional rigid taping, the athletes had a greater stability at the ankle joint in the standing position.
