Abstract

Introduction: Postural instability, balance and gait alterations all present in Parkinson’s disease (PD) contribute to the patient's loss of function and independence. Objective: To analyze the effectiveness of the association between physiotherapy and music therapy in balance and gait in individuals with PD. Methods: Uncontrolled clinical trial with seven male subjects with PD, classified between 1 to 3 in modified Hoehn and Yahr scale. The patients were evaluated at the beginning (IA) and at the end (FA) of an intervention program with 12 sessions of physiotherapy, three times a week, associated with music therapy. Results: There was a statistically significant difference between IA and FA after intervention, concerning balance (p = 0.02), gait speed (p = 0.01), number of steps (p = 0.01) and total distance time (p = 0.01). Conclusion: The applied rehabilitation program was effective in individuals with PD regarding those outcomes that included balance and gait.
