Abstract

Introduction: Studies demonstrate that physical activity practices can provide benefits for people; however, there is always the risk of injuries. Objective: To perform a retrospective analysis of the prevalence of student injuries in physical education classes and school sports teams in central Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Methods: We conducted a retrospective survey of injuries in students in a period of three years. The instrument used was the Inquérito de Morbidade Referida (IMR). Results: The findings revealed different types of injuries, the most frequent ones being sprains; the most affected body part was the ankle; and the school team sport with the highest prevalence of injuries was basketball. Conclusion: The data serve as an alert for the Physical Education teachers, in order to reduce injuries by its practitioners.
