Introduction: In providing health care, it is necessary to consider gender differences and identify the prevalence of problems and health needs. Objective: To compare epidemiological profiles and clinical needs of male and female users of the Family Health Units (USF) in São Carlos (SP). Methods: In this descriptive cross-sectional study, 5,963 users were interviewed. We used a questionnaire to characterize health conditions. Data were descriptively analyzed, and a chi-square test was applied. Results: Women have a higher prevalence of hypertension, diabetes, anemia, and endocrine disorders and use more health services. Men have higher rates of alcoholism and drug addiction. Women have more interest in disease prevention and health promotion. Conclusion: The USFs should emphasize actions promoting men’s health, because the low prevalence of complaints suggests lack of knowledge and care provision in this population.Downloads
