Abstract

Introduction: Tendencies toward competing, winning and setting personal goals involve not only physical, technical, and tactical training, but also factors related to psychosocial preparedness. Objective: To analyze the behavior of young volleyball athletes in relation to individual competitive tendencies (TQ) toward competing, winning, and setting goals and identify possible sex-related differences. Methods: The sample consisted of 241 volleyball players, with mean age of 15.19±1.59 years and an average of 3.52±2.22 years practicing the sport. The TQs were evaluated by the ACS – 2 Evaluation System. The Mann-Whitney test was used for data analysis, with significance level of 5%. Results: The athletes exhibited the same values for tendency toward competing (19.00), but the boys attributed higher importance to winning (9.00±4.00 vs. 10.00±5.00) and setting goals (8.00±3.00 vs. 9.00±4.00). Conclusions: According to an inverse analysis of the data, the athletes showed noticeable behavior toward setting goals.
