Introduction: Balance is a relevant evolutionary function that express an indicator of neurological maturity. Considering that physical activity practice affects the postural balance, Pilates method can be an important kind to develop postural balance in students. Objective: To compare the postural balance in practitioners and students not Pilates practitioners. Methods: Thirty students were included and divided into two groups: the Pilates group (PG), which held exercises based on the Pilates method, and the inactive group (IG) as who have not done the practice any regular exercise. The balance of students was assessed by Dynamic Posturography with the sensory organization test (TOS), which assess the proprioceptive, vestibular and visual systems. Results: The students of PG had significantly higher values than the IG in the sensory tests, the conditions 1 and 3, conditions which assess proprioceptive, vestibular and visual systems. Conclusion: There was difference of balance between PG and IG students, showing better results of this variable in PG.Downloads
