Abstract

Diptera is one of the four most diverse groups of insects with species of great medical, veterinary and economic importance, spreading many pathogenic agents to man and animals, also destroying the crops. The wing venations are the source of good characteristics of taxonomic importance used in the identification of families and even lower taxonomic levels. The aim of this work is to provide a preliminary study of wing venation of some families of Diptera order. Fifty specimens were collected in São Paulo city. The wings were removed, putted in microscopy slides and observed under stereomicroscope and optic microscope, then they were photographed and the images were treated digitally in computer software. Eight families were been identified: Culicidae, Drosophilidae, Muscidae, Psychodidae, Sarcophagidae, Sciaridae, Syrphidae, Tipulidae the one Infraorder Bibionomorpha.
