Abstract

In this work, the objective was to detect chronotypes of healthcare workers of 6h and 12h shift periods and to check whether their working time would correspond to the part of the day that the workers would be on alert or sleepiness. To obtain the data, we have used the Horne and Ostberg (1976) questionnaire. The results reveal that a group identified as moderately matutinal did not present a fit related to the work period. The literature shows that workpeople who have inverted biological clocks suffer the effects from the fatigue and are more susceptible to accidents. Considering that their working periods demand great responsibility, it is possible to evaluate the importance of the study related to the biological rhythm, concerning the impact in health and in the quality of life, the patient’ assistance excellence, as well as at the institutions that hire those workpeople.
