Effect of a gameterapy program on the equilibrium of elderly

Introduction: game therapy is an intervention that promotes the improvement of balance in the elderly. Objectives: to verify the effectiveness of the use of game therapy in Nintendo WII® to improve the balance of the elderly. Methods: it is a pilot study with 10 elderly people of both sexes. Specific tests such as the Berg Balance Scale, the "Timed Up and Go" Test and the Functional Reach Test were applied and after the game therapy was performed through Nintendo WII® sports games, agility and reasoning. Student-dependent t-test was used at a significance level of p <0.05. Results: when comparing the effect of the Nintendo WII® training program on the balance of the elderly, a significant difference (p <0.05) was observed in all balance tests, showing that the intervention program based on the Nintendo WII® a positive effect on the balance of the elderly. Conclusion: game therapy through Nintendo WII® provided the elderly with improved balance.
