Abstract

Introduction: the maximum oxygen uptake is a variable which shows an association with athletes' athletic performance. Their values may differ according to the tactical position. Objective: The main of this study was to compare the maximum aerobic power of soccer players according to their different tactical positions of the game system. Materials and methods: A total of 18 female athletes, with a mean age of 19.1 (1.4) years, participated in the study (three center-backs, four wing-backs, five midfielders, and six forwards). This is a cross-sectional study. Anthropometric assessments (weight and height) and maximal oxygen consumption (Yo-yo test) were performed. Results: According to the comparison performed, there was no statistically significant difference in the maximum aerobic power of the athletes. Conclusion: No differences were detected in the maximum oxygen consumption of professional soccer players, among their different game positions.
