Abstract

Chronic hepatitis C is a significative world problem, with high economical and social impact. The standard treatment on patients with hepatitis C is made with Interferon a (INFa), which is featured by its fast metabolization and several adverse effects generated by the peaks concentration. An alternative treatment has been developed using pegylated interferons (PEG INF), with a better pharmacokinetics and a weekly scheme of administration, thus offering the patients a higher chance of cure. PEG INF also reduces the incidence of side effects, usually associated to the conventional treatment, improving the capacity of the patients to tolerate and continue the treatment.
