Abstract

The teenage pregnancy results in physical and psychological transformations, generating emotional conflicts for the young mothers. In this study, it was aimed to describe the emotional factors of the adolescents from the moment they had discovered the pregnancy until the moment they became mothers. The descriptive and qualitative research had, as inclusion criterion, women who live in Favela do Moinho (São Paulo city, Brazil), whose the first gestation occurred in the period of 13 to 18 years of age. To be mother, for these girls, was seen as a dream coming true, although being not physically and emotionally prepared for the maternity, the familiar support is important so that they did not develop negative feelings due to their uncertain future. It was concluded that the pregnancy in the adolescence makes girls leave the school generating emotional upheavals and feelings that had varied of happiness to fear.
