Abstract

Research carried out within the scope of the Supply Chain (SC) and Supply Chain Management (SCM) point to the need for integration, cooperation and information sharing between business partners. For sharing and cooperation within SC, the indispensability of reliability between partners and, therefore, reciprocity is assumed. However, the practice of opportunism between organizations can lead to information asymmetry, putting the relationship at risk. Thus, this essay aims to carry out a theoretical discussion based on the concepts of reciprocity and informational asymmetry, with a view to generating propositions that can guide future empirical research and fill in gaps that until then have not been explored or covered by the extensive literature on CS and SCM. As a result, a hypothetical-deductive model was proposed, presenting the articulation of the respective constructs: power asymmetry, reciprocity and stability in the relationship, assuming as moderating variables the asymmetry of size and length of relationship, articulating eight prepositions for this purpose based on a set of theories inherent to the field of Operations Management.
