Sportive Performance or Administrative Performance: Dilemma of Managers From a Brazilian Soccer Club

Sport market plays an extremely important role in economies worldwide. Within this type of market, the main sport in a matter of financial transactions and interest is soccer, especially in Brazil. Grêmio Futebol Porto Alegrense is a professional soccer club, hosted in the city of Porto Alegre, state of Rio Grande do Sul which is part of this market. Currently, the club managers are facing a dilemma related to strategic choices, due to low results and administrative performance of the club. This case study, through secondary data, aims to provide an investigation and promote a discussion on issues related to strategic planning, choice of competitive advantages, decision-making and access to decision-making agents. The results lead to suggest the application of the case in disciplines of strategic management, marketing management and sports administration for graduation courses.Downloads
