Abstract

Sports management is a phenomenon that is not a new subject. The most important competencies of presidents of sporting entities have been studied, failing to reach an agreement, because the managers obey the sector or organization in which they perform, although there are international studies that define the competencies that have presidents of an association. The studies does not necessarily fit the Chilean reality leaving doubts on the knowledge of the real skills and knowledge of those who head a sports organization in the country. This article aims to identify the management skills that characterize the presidents and analyze the competences that influence the action of the sports associations belonging to the National Sports Institute of Chile. Thus, we conducted a non-experimental design and a quantitative approach in where the data collection was done through a questionnaire based on a Likert scale. The main competences of the data analysis were: (1) Tournaments, leagues and matches program; (2) Maintains effective communication with the board and (3) Uses of good communication skills.
