Peer Review Process

The article evaluation process for submissions to PODIUM Sport, Leisure and Tourism Review is characterized by a triple-review system and involves two sequential stages: the desk review and peer review. During the desk review, the editors meet and analyze the submitted manuscripts—without any identification of the authors—to assess their relevance to the journal’s scope and their potential to significantly contribute to knowledge in the fields of sport, leisure, and tourism. When necessary, the editors may also involve a member of the scientific committee in this process. This evaluation is conducted monthly.

If the submitted work is deemed unsuitable according to the journal’s policies, the authors are notified of the decision within sixty days from the date of submission. In such cases, alternative journals are generally suggested. Articles approved during the desk review stage are then forwarded to two specialists from the journal’s panel of reviewers for evaluation under the Double Blind Review system. These reviewers are professors and researchers affiliated with graduate programs (stricto sensu) at national or international academic institutions.

Evaluations are conducted using a standardized review form, which includes space for personalized comments. These comments are shared with the authors in the case of conditional acceptance, requests for revisions, or rejection. Articles are assessed based on the relevance of the topic to the field of sport, the clarity of writing, the logical structure and theoretical grounding with appropriate references, the adequacy of methodological procedures, the depth and consistency of analyses, the articulation of conclusions, and the significance of the contributions.

This stage of the review process may take up to three months, after which the authors are informed of the editorial decision. When reviewers request revisions, the authors are granted, at the editor’s discretion, a period of thirty to sixty days to incorporate the suggested changes.

After the requested revisions have been made and verified by the reviewers and editors, the approved articles proceed to the text editing stage. At this point, authors are asked to review the grammar and ensure compliance with the journal’s formatting and editorial guidelines, as well as finalize the document for publication.

The completion of this process does not imply immediate publication; it is the responsibility of the editors, in accordance with the journal’s editorial policies, to plan the publication schedule and determine the appropriate time for release.

PODIUM Sport, Leisure and Tourism Review is part of the Publons platform (http://www.publons.com). Thus, Podium’s reviewers may request recognition for their reviews through Publons. This is a way to acknowledge the reviewers’ contributions and provide visibility for their voluntary work.
