Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the characteristics of publications on social sustainability and public health in the Web of Science (WOS) and SCOPUS databases. It has a quantitative approach and is characterized as a bibliometric analysis. The search identified 769 publications in WOS and 1,601 in SCOPUS. The first publication on the theme took place in 1989. From then on, there was an increase in publications until 2017, with a greater participation of scientific articles (598 in WOS and 1,033 in SCOPUS), especially in the five-year period of 2013-2017. There was a predominance of articles from international institutions and in areas such as Medicine, Public Health, Social Sciences and Environmental Sciences. Among the most cited, there was a predominance of publications in English, involving relations between ecology, sustainable development, environmental sustainability and social sustainability and health. The bibliometric analysis contributes to the approximation about the social dimension of sustainability and points to the relevance of the theme in the management of actions, programs and public health organizations in the country.
