Objective: The aim of the study was to analyze blood lactate, perceived exertion, and repetitions performance in resistance exercise for 15-RM performed at different rest lengths (1- vs. 3-minute).
Methods: Fourteen trained men (25.14 ± 3.5 years; 85.83 ± 10.18 kg; 1.78 ± 0.06 m) completed five sets, with 15-RM load in two sessions involving upper body exercises, with 1- or 3-minute of rest between sets and exercises.
Results: For the total number of repetitions completed in two conditions (p = 0.000; ESs = 4.95) and the total number of repetitions in all exercises independently verified (p < 0.0000; ESs = 2.08), significant differences were observed. For blood lactate levels, no significant difference was observed between conditions (p = 0.76). Both conditions showed a progressive increase in perceived exertion, regardless the different conditions (1- vs. 3-minute).
Conclusion: The findings showed that longer rest length (such as 3-minute) is crucial for maintaining performance without differences in blood lactate levels and perceived exertion.
