Abstract

Introduction: Training and specific parameters in order to avoid fatigue in training by functional electrical stimulation are necessary. Objective: It was verified the onset of the muscular fatigue in hemiparetic patients, post stroke, in the intention of better understanding of parameters of electric stimulation, the frequency. Methods: The behavior of muscle fatigue was analyzed by median frequency and the maximum voluntary isometric contraction of brachiallis biceps of 18 hemiparetic individuals was evaluated, in times. We used a square current and biphasic, with t “on” 10 s., and “off” 30 seconds, and variable frequency of 50 Hz (protocol 1) and 2000Hz (protocol 2). Results: It was observed that it did not have statistical significant difference (p <0.05) between protocols 1 and 2, neither difference was recorded in the period immediately after therapy. Conclusion: For the measurement tools used, electromyography and muscle strength, was not possible to detect the onset of muscle fatigue, with the two protocols of functional electrical stimulation used.
