Proposal and application of a procedure for analysis of idleness and wastes in an aircraft company

Abstract

This study analyses workmen’s performance in an aeronautical manufacture. Idleness, defined as waste concerning counterproductive work behaviors (CWBs), and added value taxes will be analyzed by testing four propositions: differences among collecting data techniques; differences among wastes; variation of added value rates along the working day and workmen’s profiles having the biggest impacts on idleness. Data gathered from Integrated Management System were higher than the observed, the idleness presented the biggest value among other wastes, morning had bigger added value than afternoon (especially end of the morning) and workmen who are married and have children had smaller idleness. This article shows how the idleness can perform an important role in Lean analyses in operations management and how the procedure can guide strategies to decrease the idleness.

Luiz Carvalho Neto, Universidade Federal de Itajubá

Possui graduação em Engenharia de Produção pela Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI) (2011), fez intercâmbio de dois anos na França durante a graduação (Université de Technologie de Compiègne) e possui título de mestre em Engenharia de Produção também pela UNIFEI (2017). Atualmente é professor na FEPI, em Itajubá, para o curso de Engenharia de Produção e para a pós graduação em Gestão de Projetos. É o gestor do curso MBA em Gestão de Projetos na FEPI. Possui grande experiência na indústria: estágio no Technocentre da Renault (região parisiense, França) em 2009 no departamento de Supply Chain; estágio na Helibras (Airbus Helicopters) em Itajubá (Brasil) em 2011 na área de desenvolvimento de produto e engenheiro na Helibras de 2011 a 2016 (desenvolvimento de processo, Lean Manufacturing e Operações Comerciais). Além disso, possui certificados importantes no meio industrial internacional, como o certificado de Six Sigma Green Belt (CSSGB), Six Sigma Black Belt (CSBB) e Quality Engineer (CQE) - todos pela American Society for Quality (ASQ) e Project Management Professional (PMP) pelo Project Management Institute (PMI). Possui curso de auditor líder da ISO9001:2015 pela Bureau Veritas/IRCA.

Doutor em Engenharia Mecânica, na área de Produção, pela Universidade Estadual Paulista (2008). Mestre em Engenharia de Produção pela Universidade Federal de Itajubá (2003) e graduação em Engenharia Mecânica pela Universidade Federal de Itajubá (2000). Atualmente é professor adjunto da Universidade Federal de Itajubá. Tem experiência na área de Engenharia de Produção, com ênfase em modelagem de processos, simulação computacional, racionalização industrial e organização do trabalho.
