Mechanical alloying is a solid-state powder processing technique involving repeated cold welding, fracturing, and rewelding of powder particles in a high-energy mill. Originally developed to produce oxide-dispersion strengthened (ODS) superalloys for applications in the aerospace industry, it is currently capable of synthesizing a variety of alloys. Process variables and starting materials involved in mechanical allowing are reviewed and discussed.Downloads
