Abstract

This study characterized a composite by energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (µED-XRF), FT-Raman spectroscopy and surface roughness. Were performed two cavities on each tooth (n = 10) and restored with the resin. Line and area mappings and point measures were performed on the samples by µED-XRF. Point and line readings were also performed by FT-Raman and roughness respectively. We found an average by weight and standard deviation of: 20.76 % (1.11) of Si and 6.67 % (0.37) of Zr (line mappings); 23.18 % (0.96) of Si and 7.65 % (0.41) of Zr (point measuring); 24.36 % (1.24) of Si and 6.75 % (1.00) of Zr (area mappings). The area mapping reduces the variability of sample data. The average roughness (Ra) was: 0.17 µm (0.03) (composite); 0.21 µm (0.06) (enamel). The Raman spectra showed the bands of the composite at 1605 cm-1 and 1635 cm-1.
