Lean manufacturing projects for portfolio generation: a review of the literature

Project portfolio is a subject of paramount importance into the project management field. The activity project selection is considered as critical for many scholars. This study aims to identify a list of the main Lean Manufacturing projects according to the scientific literature. The methodology used was systematic review of the literature. The main contribution is the identification of a list of 11 main types of Lean Manufacturing projects through cross analysis of the contents of the main papers of Lean Manufacturing written in the last 20 years. This study also allowed the perception of the relative degree of spread of each of these 11 types in scientific literature. As a practical contribution a list of Lean projects can be used for project portfolio generation and for project selection, which is considered respectively as a research gap and key success factor in project management.
