The Toyota Production System, or lean, is a work management philosophy that seeks to meet customer needs, making production processes efficient by eliminating waste. This paper aims to present the results of the implementation of the kanban framework in an information technology sector of a public educational institution, demonstrating its benefits and encouraging new implementations of lean methods in the public sector. The research is of a quantitative nature and to obtain the results we adopted methods of exploratory data analysis, descriptive statistics and statistical inference. In this analyzed context, it was verified the decrease of 74.38% in the average time of the processes, soon after the implementation of the table. The results suggest that only the adoption of the kanban framework presented improvements in the work processes in the researched sector, unlike the lean literature, when it emphasizes the low effectiveness in the improvements resulting from the implementation of a tool unrelated to a methodological support based on this philosophy.
