Abstract

In this work, it is intended to carry through a reading of the urban design of the villages situated around the stations of the first São Paulo railroad – the Santos-Jundiai Railroad, to identify the elements of its urban formation, which remain in the landscape of the São Paulo metropolis and consist the identity landmarksof the cultural landscape of the cities located along of the railway line. In order to do that, it is analyzed the formation of the district of São Bernardo Station, current city of Santo André, to determine the elements that had conformed the city in its origin, landmarks that are also found in other nucleus in the immediacy of railway line.
