Oral health of residents in a poor neighborhood of Xangri-Lá, RS, Brazil

Introduction: To promote health, you should know the conditions under which the individual lives and their interactions with family and community. Objectives: To make a survey about the oral health status of the Xangri-Lá’s Figueirinha neighborhood population, RS, Brazil. Methods: The survey of data from 104 families was carried out through home visits. Results: It was found that the population in the study is young, with low incomes, low levels of education, and living with poor infrastructure conditions. Referring to the population’s oral conditions, it was found high occurrences of visible plaque (74.7%) and gingival bleeding (63.6%), and elevated caries indexes. Young people showed a high number of decayed teeth, and adults a big number of missing teeth. Conclusion: This population had a poor oral health status that prejudice their quality of life.Downloads
