A quality-of-life analysis of elderly computer workshop patrons

Objective: To analyze the quality of life of elderly computer workshops patrons (OINFO, acronym in Portuguese). Methods: A total of 92 seniors were divided into two groups, as follows: group I consisted of 23 OINFO patrons, and group II consisted of 69 individuals who did not participate in OINFO. A sociodemographic questionnaire and quality of life scale WHOQOL-Bref were used as instruments. Data were analyzed with SPSS® (version 17.0). For the WHOQOL analysis, a t-test was used on the independent sample, while the Chi-square test was used on the sociodemographic variables. Results: There were significant differences in the physical (p <0.001), psychological (p <0.019) and total (p=0.039) domains. Conclusion: The physical and psychological domains showed significant differences due to the elderly group I participate in social groups, thus increasing social and educational interaction, improving self-esteem and contributing to a better quality of life.Downloads
