Barriers to the qualification of maintenance in small and medium-sized companies of the metalworking industrial sector

Abstract

Equipment failure is one of various reasons for not meeting customer expectations. In some instances, this stems from the wrong procedures being performed whilst managing maintenance. This study aimed to describe flawed maintenance processes and identify barriers to qualification in small and medium-sized metalwork companies in the city of Santa Maria. To accomplish this, the study first attempted to understand the true reality of these companies by conducting interviews and comparing results with established and comprehensive strategies in the area of maintenance management. With the aid of these comparisons, it became possible to identify specific solutions to overcome the difficulties encountered.
