Abstract

In last decades, the use of porous ceramics hás been increased in several technological applications, such as filters, catalytic supports, structural materials and materials for bone implants. Among several methods to obtain porous ceramics, the addition of pore-forming agent to the ceramic powder is widely used due to its simplicity. Aiming the reuse of organic wastes and vegetable subproducts, in the present workit is proposed the production of porous glassceramics belonging to the Li2O-ZrO2-SiO2-Al2O3 (LZSA) system by addition of powders of sugarcane bagasse and wood powder as poreforming agents to the glass powder. Thermal degradation of the pore-former agents, during thermal treatment up to 750 °C, was studied by thermogravimetric analysis and infrared spectroscopy. The porous materials microstructure was evaluated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). It were achieved porosities in the range of 49-73%.
