Los impactos del Gran Premio de Fórmula 1 de Brasil en la ciudad de São Paulo

Objetivo: Explorar los impactos generados por el GP de Brasil de Fórmula 1 para la ciudad de São Paulo en el período de 2015 a 2019.
Métodos de investigación: cualitativos y exploratorios. Analizamos documentos como informes publicados por el gobierno de la ciudad de São Paulo y por la empresa que promociona el evento, así como información divulgada en medios de comunicación. También realizamos entrevistas con los siguientes interlocutores: el vicealcalde de la ciudad de São Paulo en ese momento, el director de la empresa municipal responsable de administrar el Hipódromo de Interlagos, el CEO de la empresa promotora en Brasil, un periodista deportivo y un residente del distrito de Interlagos, donde se encuentra el hipódromo.
Originalidad/Relevancia: Los funcionarios gubernamentales utilizan el Gran Premio de Fórmula 1 como instrumentos para el desarrollo y la promoción de la imagen de sus ciudades anfitrionas a nivel internacional. Sin embargo, los estudios académicos sobre los impactos de este tipo de mega evento para sus ciudades anfitrionas aún son incipientes.
Resultados principales: Fl GP de Brasil generó los siguientes impactos en la ciudad: económico (inversión pública, empleos temporales, venta de servicios y oportunidades de negocios entre empresas); físico (flujo de tráfico y caminos de acceso cerca del autódromo); y sociocultural (sentido de orgullo de los residentes y mayor inseguridad en la región del autódromo).
Implicaciones: Los resultados de esta investigación sugieren que la celebración de mega eventos puede tener impactos positivos cuando ocurren en la misma ciudad a lo largo de los años, ya que generan la posibilidad de reutilizar recursos preexistentes y desarrollar conocimientos y habilidades por parte de gobierno y sus organizadores.
