Abstract

In order to develop its arguments and make possible the communication between the interlocutors of the dialogue, the rhetoric uses both concepts and metaphors as linguistic resources. Pointing the differences between concepts and metaphors, detaching the limits of the conceptual language and indicating the overcoming of these limits by the use of metaphors, besides dealing with the rhetoric in its historical development and indicating how it could make use of these linguistic resources to make for a more persuasive and convincing speech are our objectives in this article.
