Abstract

Introduction: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolic diseases characterized by hyperglycemia. Physical exercise is an effective method for reducing the risks of diabetes because it causes improvement in the levels of glycemia, limits the amount of stress, and increases self-esteem, thus improving the quality of life of diabetics. Objective: To evaluate the impact of physical exercise on quality of life of type 2 diabetics. Methods: The study included 27 type 2 diabetic students enrolled in the Project Sweet Life Program Supervised Exercise for Diabetics ESEF / UPE. The exercise program lasted three months, the data collection instrument was a questionnaire-DQOL Brazil. Results: The findings showed satisfaction among diabetics with their social life, friendships and current treatment; 44.4% reported being “very satisfied.” Conclusion: The regular practice of physical exercise had a positive impact on quality of life of type 2 diabetics.
