About the Journal

Focus and Scope

EccoS is the scientific-academic publication of the Graduate Program in Education at the Nove de Julho University (PPGE-UNINOVE).

Published since 1999, the magazine has been disseminating original texts produced in the field of social sciences and humanities, with a focus on the area of education.

Since its first edition, it has sought to publish expressive scientific and academic texts (essays or results of empirical research and reviews) on educational matters, seeking to maintain the collaboration of a wide variety of authors, from the most diverse national and foreign education and research institutions.

Initially, the EccoS was published every six months, with only two numbers per year. As of 2012, it became quarterly, therefore, with three annual issues, and in 2019 it managed to become quarterly, with four annual issues. Finally, starting in July 2020, it became another Brazilian journal in the area of education with periodicity in continuous flow, according to the recommendations of the most recognized indexers in the area. In 2014, it started to be edited, preferably, in the online version, and could be printed on special occasions.

In order to keep up with the reflections on the most significant problems of the current circumstances and advances in pedagogical science, EccoS orders referential texts from renowned authors in the mentioned areas of knowledge, to publish them in the form of dossiers, in addition to articles and reviews collected from spontaneous demands. As of 2020, it will publish the abstracts of doctoral theses and post-doctoral research defended in the PPGE-Uninove.

EccoS aims to contribute to the dissemination of academic and scientific works that enroll in the field of educational sciences, offering free and immediate access to all its content through the portal www.revistaeccos.org.br, under the guideline of the wide and unrestricted knowledge socialization.

Throughout its history, EccoS has sought to guarantee the institutional diversity of its authors and the presence of researchers from different institutions in all regions of Brazil, as well as renowned foreign HEIs, avoiding endogeny.

More recently, it was decided that, in addition to the official language of EccoS, Portuguese, texts could be submitted and published in other languages: German, Spanish, French, English and Italian. The texts of articles and reviews are submitted exclusively through the Journal's portal.

Peer Review Process

The texts (articles and reviews) submitted are evaluated, first, regarding their scientifically consolidated character, their social relevance and their alignment with the EccoS guidelines.

All submitted articles are checked by the Oxsico program - a plagiarism detection software - which, if plagiarism is found, will take the legal measures in force.

When the submitted work is not original, nor appropriate and appropriate to the EccoS editorial policy, it will be archived.

Once the original text was verified, the adequacy and timeliness of the submitted text, the evaluation proceeds in the double-blind peer review system, under the responsibility of the ad hoc reviewers – specialists appointed according to the theme and / or theoretical references of the submitted work –, in general, the referees are professors and researchers associated with stricto sensu postgraduate programs from national or foreign higher education institutions (HEIs).

After carefully examining the submitted article or review, the referee must conclude his respective analytical-critical opinion with one of the following recommendations:

a) accept;

b) accept with corrections or modifications;

c) reject.

For acceptance, at least two favorable opinions are required, and, in case of divergence between the opinions, the submitted texts may be forwarded to a third reviewer, at the discretion of the editor(s).

When one or both reviewers request reformulations, the work is returned to the author, so that he/she considers the opinions and reformulates the text, which, reformulated, must be sent for reevaluation.

Unaccepted work is archived; the accepted work passes to the editing phase. Articles accepted for publication may undergo editorial revisions to facilitate their clarity and understanding, without altering their content.

The editors will decide in which edition and in which part of the Journal the article will be published.
