Globe-wise discussions on the influence of mankind on the environment have increased in reach, visibility and importance, getting to establish classifications, formalized documents and events. These debates gain more importance in the context of organizations, reflected from various pressures. This theoretical essay aims to converge considerations between environmental sustainability practices and their influence on new institutional formatting of organizations through the lens of Institutional Theory. It was noticed that many of the environmental sustainability practices by organizations are the result of pressure from the government, society and competition, which become isomorphic forces, which are: coercive, normative and mimetic isomorphism. Thus, companies end up joining the practice of environmental sustainability driven by collective rationality. A framework is proposed in order to facilitate understanding and encourage further discussion on conceptual triangulation involving the influence of environmental sustainability practices in formatting the new institutional organizations, the role of environmental variables and causal analysis of the phenomena. A research agenda is suggested.Downloads
