The contribution of the United Nations Convention against transnational organized crime: protecting state sovereignty and the combat of transnational organized crime in a globalized world

Abstract

In the face of globalization, caused by the advances in the means of transport and communication, the interaction and cooperation between countries was drastically affected. In this scenario, criminality certainly also benefits from new technologies, in a way that the same organized criminal group can carry out its activities in several countries, which culminates in the so-called transnational crimes, ranging from drugs, people and weapons trafficking to cybernetic crimes and terrorism. Therefore, from a dialectical methodological approach, different theses will be presented referring to globalization, the advance of organized criminal groups, transnational crimes and the need for cooperation between nations, with especial attention to the work of the author Carolina Gladyer Rabelo. It notes, finally, the importance of the UN Convencion in promoting international cooperation, with the presentation of guidelines for this purpose, with a special focus on preserving state sovereignty, in order to guarantee harmonious international relations and improve the combat against transnational crimes, since the informational gap between states only benefits the increase in crime.
