Osteoporosis is a devastating disorder characterized by low bone density, which increase the bone fractures risk. Nowadays, it is considered the main health problem for elderly, especially for post menopause women. A retrospective study was performed in order to evaluate the occurrence of osteoporosis and osteopenia in patients who have taken bone densitometry in Guarulhos city, São Paulo state. 382 records were evaluated and the analysis indicated that the majority of patients were Caucasian women who presented some bone alterations. However, a minority portion has been submitted to treatment. The vertebral column and femur were the major areas evaluated. The studies that help to draw a profile of individuals susceptible to osteoporosis and osteopenia are of fundamental importance to prevention works in Guarulhos.Downloads
