Abstract

Understanding education in the rural areas nowadays means to understand its history, comprehending its contradictions and tensions that are part of the capitalist society. So far, the Brazilian capitalism has not needed the education of the peasant. It does not mean that will not be put into practice, especially in times of productive restructuring, which might create the need for it to occur. But the actions of the Landless Workers Movement (MST) are indicating the construction of a conception for the education in the rural areas, as a critique of reality, makes significant its existence in line with a political project of the working class, and also motivates us to study aspects of its history and the presence of Christian principles in its development.
