Abstract

The article proposes to reflect on the main characteristics of the process of acquisition of Libras by CODAs, the hearing children daughters of deaf parents. Given that the CODAs are involved in a different language culture from the one in which the children of the hear-ing parents are immersed, we consider that, by acquiring Libras, it internalizes linguistic and cultural codes of sign language while at the same time internalizing the elements of the lan-guage oral culture since it is a listener. The study had as a methodological proposal a bibli-ographical survey so that it was possible to approach the subject. It was sought to carry out a simple and objective methodological course that is based on an analysis of the main (alt-hough few) works that approach the subject within the academic debate. The learning of the Libras requires a different logic, marked by constructions of meaning very different from those of the Portuguese language, and for that reason it is important to mention that there is in its acquisition process an intensive movement of exchange of structures that are and they move away paradoxically. In addition to being a linguistic modality based on signs and not orality, it also follows its own grammatical structure. The CODAs grow into a kind of boundary marked by a deaf universe and a listening universe.
