Abstract

This study aims to characterize the teaching and the strategies with experiments conducted at Centro de Ensino de Ciências do Nordeste (CECINE) in the 1960’s and 1970’s for interventions in refresher courses and professional qualification for teachers of Natural Sciences in the North and Northeast of Brazil. We carried out a documentary research in the archives of CECINE and interviews with ex-teachers which formed teachers and worked at CECINE in that time. We verified that many of the interventions aimed to spread a new teaching proposal, based on the US curricula, taking as reference the practical experimental activities. It was expected that undergraduate teachers would take possession of the techniques and experimental models oriented in the curricula to replicate among their students, with adaptations and adjustments, disseminating scientific knowledge in order to popularize Science in that region.
