Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) present exercise limitation due to ventilatory constraints. Noninvasive mechanical ventilation (NIMV) has been used as an additional tool in the pulmonary rehabilitation program (PRP) because of its effects on dyspnea and exercise tolerance. The objective in this study was to analyze the effects of different NIMV modalities (CPAP, bilevel, PS e PAV) during exercise on PRP. Proportional assist ventilation associated with the physical training was the modality that showed greater benefits, reducing dyspnea and increasing the exercise tolerance in COPD patients. In the other hand, the continuous positive pressure in the aerial roads was the less significant in terms of benefits.Downloads
